Armenia’s State Revenue Committee finds 37.9 thousand packs of tobacco hidden in doors bound for the US

A company registered in Armenia tried to export 37.9 thousand packs of tobacco products without excise stamps to the United States, hidden inside laminate doors. The case was reported by the State Revenue Committee (SRC), Armenia’s tax and customs authority.

The SRC anti-smuggling department’s unit for operational control of air border checkpoints and e-commerce had received information that the company was preparing to ship a large batch of tobacco products concealed from customs control to the US through the Cargo freight complex. Following this, the company’s export shipments were placed under control.

During the customs inspection, each door turned out to weigh twice as much as a standard door made of the same material. Department officers dismantled all the doors and found tobacco products made in various countries inside.

A report on the violation of customs rules has been drawn up, and the case files have been sent to the SRC’s legal department. The committee urged businesses to comply with customs legislation and refrain from attempts to move goods past customs control.
