Binance studies Armenian market but makes no commitment on its presence yet

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance is studying the Armenian market but is not yet committing to any specific form of presence in the country. Kirill Khomyakov, Binance’s regional head for Central Asia and Africa, said this in an interview distributed by the company.
Khomyakov said Armenia is interesting because it combines a strong technology environment with growing public interest in new financial instruments. The country has the potential to become a regional crypto and blockchain hub, but that requires clear rules, infrastructure, specialists, real products and demand from people and businesses. “Today I would speak of good potential that still has to be realised,” he said.
What Binance is doing in Armenia
The company does not develop markets simply for the sake of being present: it first studies user needs, the local financial system and the regulatory environment, and then decides on next steps. “We are watching the market closely, but today we would not want to promise specific forms of presence that do not yet exist,” Khomyakov said.
Binance engages with Armenian government bodies through established procedures. “We do not set the rules, but we can share our experience,” Khomyakov said, referring to compliance, security and risk management. He stressed the importance of a comprehensive regulatory framework covering not only spot trading but also futures, stablecoins and tokenized assets.
Startups and talent
The company follows Armenia’s technology ecosystem and is open to partnerships with startups. Decisions depend on the specific product, the team, regulatory compliance and the real value a project can create. In Khomyakov’s view, Armenia has the technology base to develop blockchain and fintech expertise.
He said the industry needs not only blockchain developers but also specialists in cybersecurity, data, fintech, compliance, products and digital finance.
About the company
Binance operates in a range of regulated markets. Khomyakov said the company invests hundreds of millions of dollars in compliance. At the start of 2026, more than 600 employees worked directly in its compliance unit, while over 950 specialists and contractors performed compliance functions in technology, products and customer service. In total, that is more than 1,500 people, about a quarter of Binance’s global team.
