Direct Sofia-Yerevan-Sofia flights resume on 7 November

Bulgarian airline GullivAir, in cooperation with Bulgaria Air, will launch scheduled flights on the Sofia-Yerevan-Sofia route from 7 November 2026. Flights will operate twice a week. The Embassy of Bulgaria in Armenia announced this on Facebook, noting that the route’s opening was the result of efforts by Nikola Nikolov, Ambassador of Bulgaria to Armenia.

“The resumption of the direct Sofia-Yerevan-Sofia air link is an important step toward strengthening contacts between our peoples, developing year-round tourism exchange, making it easier to do business and develop trade and economic relations, and stimulating cultural ties, which will at the same time give new momentum to relations between the two countries,” the Bulgarian Embassy said.

Schedule and connections

According to the Bulgarian Embassy’s August announcement, also published by Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Captain Yanko Ivanov, representing GullivAir, provided exceptional assistance in opening the route. According to the Embassy of Armenia in Bulgaria (1 September), flights will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 November 2026 to 25 March 2027. If the route performs well, the airline intends to keep flying to Yerevan in the summer season.

What it means

The direct link between the two capitals returns after a break: from May 2023, Wizz Air flew the route twice a week, which the Bulgarian Embassy also announced at the time. In summer 2026, Bulgaria Air operated a weekly seasonal Burgas-Yerevan charter (July-August); the new route is scheduled and runs through the winter.

According to Bulgaria’s Ministry of Economy and Industry, Bulgaria-Armenia trade reached $74.6 million in 2025 (+5.7% on 2024), including Bulgarian exports to Armenia of $72.1 million and imports from Armenia of $2.5 million. Armenian foreign direct investment in Bulgaria stood at €39.9 million at the end of 2025 (Bulgarian National Bank).

Who benefits and what to do

Beneficiaries include tourists (winter ski holidays in Bulgaria, city tourism in Armenia), the communities of both countries, and exporters and businesses, for whom Sofia becomes a direct entry point to the EU without transiting Istanbul or other hubs. Travellers should note that Armenian citizens need a visa or a valid Schengen visa to enter Bulgaria. Tickets and schedules should be checked on the airline’s official website.
